Serbia Zijin Copper DOO Bor, formerly known as RTB BOR Copper Mine, is a modern copper mining and development enterprise based in Bor, Serbia, with a legacy spanning over 120 years. Integrating copper mining, processing, metallurgy, metal sales, and mine engineering, the company plays a pivotal role in Serbia’s economy as one of its largest enterprises. Following Zijin Mining Group Co., Ltd.’s acquisition of a 63% controlling stake in RTB BOR in December 2018 through a USD 350 million capital investment, Serbia Zijin Copper became a Sino-Serbian joint venture committed to green transformation and sustainable development.

Over the past five years, Zijin has implemented higher environmental standards, transforming the century-old copper mine. In 2023, the completion and operation of the Serbia Zijin Copper Smelter Technical Renovation Project marked a turning point, eliminating Bor’s long-standing reputation as an air-polluted city. Sulfur dioxide emissions from the new smelter now meet EU standards, and the air quality has reached its best level in decades. With continuous investment, Serbia Zijin Copper has achieved zero industrial wastewater discharge, restored 3.13 million square meters of green space, and contributed USD 845 million to society while creating over 9,000 direct and indirect jobs.

Today, Bor is witnessing a revival, with blue skies and clean water attracting young people back to their hometown and drawing university graduates from across Serbia. The mine’s green transformation has brought significant ecological, social, and economic benefits, setting a benchmark for sustainable development.
